「The Joke」という歌がある。X-Patriate の歌だ。

X-Patriate は Alan J. Lipman が詩を書き、曲を作り、歌い、楽器を演奏している、いわば一人バンドだ。
Alan も変わっていて、本職はボストンで開業する精神科医だ。

今回は「冗談」（The Joke）

かなり難解な詩だった。

若くて愚かな女が、こちらもまた若くて愚かな男に出会い、一瞬で恋に落ち、お互いに夢中になり、その関係にとらわれて、にっちもさっちもいかなくなる、という話だ。

若くて愚かだ、と言ったが、若くて賢い、と言うと矛盾する。なぜなら、若い、ということは愚かだ、と同意義だから。

若い、愚かな男女は、甘い嘘をお互いに吐きあうが、本人たちもそれが嘘だとは知らないのだ。そしてお互いの愛情でお互いをがんじがらめにし、身動きできなくなる。

そうなると、逃げる道は結婚しかない。あれほど嫌がった大人のルールに従う羽目になる。

そう、恋愛から結婚へ、二人は、あらかじめ用意されたシナリオにそって、あたかもダンスのステップを踏むように進んでいく。

This time, I translated "The Joke."
This lilic is very difficult for me to undersand.

It was the story that a young, foolish girl met a young, foolish boy, and fallen in love, then they were mad about their love. Their relasionship caught them, and they got bogged down.

I wrote they were young and foolish, but if I would wrote they were young and smart, it was false. Because young is synonym of foolish.

So, young, foolish couple were telling sweet lies each other, but they didn't know those were lies. And their affections bound them firmly hand and foot not to move.

The way of escaping from it was only to get married. How they had hated that!
It was the rule made by grown-ups!

Yes, the way of love to marriage was planned already, such as a scenario for a drama, and they stepped ahead like dance.
